Tips to Adding Modesty to Your Wardrobe

So you've found that perfect shirt for the season--you're in love--only problem is that it's too low-cut or it's sleeveless.  I'm sure you've run into the same problem, whether you're shopping for a back-to-school outfit or for a dress.  Whatever the clothing purchase you're looking for, the fact is that there are less modest options out there then we would like.  The trick isn't to get discouraged...instead get creative!

Below we've put together some helpful tips for you and your friends to still get the styles you love without sacrificing modesty.

Leggings!

A crucial essential to every modest-girls' wardrobe is a good pair of leggings.  Of course in black, but also leggings in funky colors and prints can really jazz up, an otherwise bland modest dress.  Don't think that all leggings are created equal--in fact you could search the web for hours finding a wide array of leggings.  In the winter, sometimes knitted leggings or "tights" are a perfect addition--not just for modesty--but for warmth in those cooler months.  You could wear tights (perfect if you're wearing heels with your dress) or you could wear capri length leggings for a more casual appearance.  However you decide to wear them--make sure you have a few pairs in your closet this season.

Tube Tops:

You're probably thinking --are they crazy?  Yes I said tube tops.  What's great about a tube top is that you can slip it under a dress or otherwise low-cutting blouse and instantly you've transformed a blouse or dress into a viable option to wear out.  We recommend picking up tube tops that are short: covering from the upper bust to the lower bust.  This way you won't add extra bulk to your garment--only extra modesty.

Extra-Long Tanks & Tees:

An essential layering tool is extra-long tunic length t-shirts and tanks.  What's great is that they don't go out of style--they're simply a took for layering.  Pants low-rise?  Try tucking a layer in--they'll hold all day if the tank is long enough and you'll never have to work about any mishaps in the back.  This is also a great tip if you don't want a layered look.  Say you're wearing your favorite blouse and it would look odd to have an extra long tank at the bottom--tuck it in!

Tunic Tops:

Luckily a great style that's in season are the tunic length tops.  Think about getting these longer options in stead of regular length tops whenever possible.  They're great because you don't have to have a clean layering top laying around and lots of times tunic length tops come with sleeves.

Boleros & Zip Hooded Sweatshirts:

Sometimes it's not cool enough to justify a jacket and you don't want to cover up your favorite shirt underneath.  Try picking up some boleros in solid colors to add as a layering piece to your outfits.  In addition try swapping out some of your hooded sweatshirts for some zip hooded sweatshirts.  It's a great way to easily delayer without any miss-haps as well and un-zip part way to show off your cool tee underneath.  These are also great layering pieces if you're trying to cover your shoulders if the top underneath doesn't do so.
